The Greenwood Festival Chorale is a non-auditioned community chorale. Chorale members are from Greenwood and surrounding areas who enjoy rehearsing on Tuesday evenings at Greenwood First Presbyterian Church. The Chorale presents 2-3 concerts per year – during the Christmas season, in June as a SC Festival of Flowers event, and frequently as part of the FESTIVA arts series of First Presbyterian Church. December and June concerts are held at Lander University in the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Auditorium and often feature orchestral accompaniment. The current director, as of July 2017, is Steve Skinner. He is director of music ministries for the First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood, SC. The chorale is enjoying his creativity and work as artistic director and conductor for the Christmas concert, 2017, and beyond for the 2017 and 2018 season.
The Artistic Director and Conductor for the Greenwood Festival Chorale from 2015 to 2017 was Marion Smith, Ph.D. He was instrumental in founding the Greenwood Civic Chorale in the mid-1980s while he served as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Concert Choirs at Lander University 1984 to 87. He retired after his last position as Professor of Music and Director of Choral Music at Eckert College in Florida. He has a most distinguished resume’ of accomplishments. We were fortunate to have encouraged him to help the Greenwood Festival Chorale as a part of his retirement plan during his early retirement years and move back to Greenwood. He now is serving as a program director at the Greenwood Museum.
