Dr. Marion Smith, GFC Artistic Director and Conductor celebrates his first year of service

Dr. Marion Smith, 2015 Artistic Director and Conductor

On January 1, 2015, one year ago, Dr. Marion Smith was named by the Greenwood Festival Chorale Board as the permanent Artistic Director and Conductor.  The chorale continues to grow in numbers and continue to enjoy singing with him. After retiring as Professor of Music at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, for 27 years, Dr. Smith has returned to Greenwood, where he established roots when he was Assistant Professor of Music at Lander University from 1984-1987.  He founded the Greenwood Civic Chorale (the precursor to the GFC) during his tenure at Lander. Dr. Smith is an accomplished conductor of choral and handbell music and is also talented as a performer. His gifts and experience have enriched the Greenwood Festival Chorale and the community. The Chorale members are pleased to celebrate with him on this milestone as we plan our next Festival of Flowers Concert on June 7, 2016, “From the Heart – Songs of Love.

Rehearsals begin on Tuesday, March 22 at the First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood (7:00 to 9:00 pm). New members are welcome and encouraged to bring a friend or spouse who also loves to sing. Help us celebrate by joining us in song and fellowship.
