Chorale performs March 18 at FPC – Reprinted from index journal staff reports Sunday March 11, 2018

Festiva welcomes Greenwood Festival Chorale to First Presbyterian Church at 4 p.m. March 18 for a concert entitled, “Frost and Faure.” The concert is free and open to the public. It is part of First Presbyterian Church’s cultural arts series, Festiva. Greenwood Festival Chorale, under artistic director and conductor Steve Skinner, will present three works as part of the concert:

  • The first is “Frostiana,” by American composer Randall Thompson. It is a collection of seven pieces, commissioned in 1959, by the city of Amherst, Massachusetts for its 200th anniversary. Poet Robert Frost supplied texts from some of his favorite poems for that composition, according to the Festiva press release.
  • Second on the concert program is “Aria in Classic Style for Harp and Organ” by organist Bob Glick and harpist John Wickey, an instrumental piece by Marcel Grandjany, said to be one of the most influential harp teachers in the United States.
  • The final piece on the program is “Requiem” by Gabriel Faure, described in the press release as “not the usual Mass for the Dead.” The Chorale will perform the John Rutter edition and is scored for organ, harp, violin, and cello. Greenwood’s own Laura Margaret Fennell of Palmetto Girls Sing is one of the soloists for “Pie Jesu.”

Festiva events are funded by contributions from individuals and organizations supporting the arts. For information, call 864-229-5814 or visit firstgreenwood.com

Reminder for second spring rehearsal, It’s not too late to come!

Tuesday night, January 16th, we will hold our second rehearsal. We had a large number of altos, tenors and basses, but several of the sopranos could not make it. It’s not too late to come, so if you’d like join the group, come tonight. We think that the selected pieces are great. The songs rehearsed included Frostiana – set to music by Randall Thompson, and FAURE Requiem – by John Rutter. All enjoyed the music, come and sing with us tonight. Next week we will have a public meeting to elect officers and make a few changes in the bylaws. Below are some pictures of the first rehearsal
